APPEAL FOR SCHOLARSHIPS TO MERITORIOUS STUDENTS:

D.T.S.S. COLLEGE OF COMMERCE (popularly known as SANSKAR COLLEGE) was established in 1984 and is named after its founding father, Late Shri. Dhirajlal Talakchand Sankalchand Shah. The college is situated in Kurar Village, Malad (E), beyond the Western Express Highway, and is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Although it is just twenty minutes walking distance from Malad Station, Kurar Village is an underdeveloped, economically-backward and slums-dominated area, where young students face severe financial hardships in their quest for higher education.

Late Shri. Dhirubhai Shah and his like-minded group of friends kindled new hopes in the heatrs of the people of Kurar Village by starting this college in 1984. Although it started with only 100 students, the college today caters to the educational needs of more than 3000 students of Kurar Village and neighboring areas.

The SANSKAR SARJAN EDUCATION SOCIETY (established in 1964) had a vision of providing a comprehensive and holistic education for needy students. With this aim, they also run a Pre-Primary and  Primary School, as well as a Secondary School in the same vicinity known as J.D.T. HIGH SCHOOL. The Junior College is known as PANACHAND DUNGARSHI TURAKHIA JUNIOR COLLEGE OF COMMERCE AND SCIENCE. It is named after the main donor, Late Shri. Panachand Durgarshi Turakhia, and is recognized by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune.

Although our students come from economically-deprived backgrounds, the management’s belief in the motto, “That is Knowledge which liberates” and its various initiatives in the field of education have helped to open the doors of a better future for many of them. The students understand that in today’s world, education is essential. Education molds character, removes ignorance, develops personality, provides opportunities for self-development and nation-building.

The college is a seven-story building with modern  infrastructure and every facility for the overall development of the students. the college has well-equipped Gymkhana, an extensive internet-connected library, an air-conditioned Staff Room, a Girls Common Room, an Assembly Hall, a Conference Room, two Computer Labs, a Physics Lab, a Chemistry Lab, the N.S.S. Room, a Canteen and Play Ground.

The primary aim of the college is to cultivate good values and prepare young men and women to be loyal, worthy citizens of India. The Management, Principal, Teachers and Non-teaching Staff wish to motivate the meritorious aspirants and financially needy students of our College. To achieve this aim, the Management donors have already instituted over 75 annual scholarships for the academic achievers of the college who deserve this recognition and financial support for their future endeavors. These scholarships have provided a ray of light in the lives of the deserving recipients and also serve to motivate the other aspiring achievers.

The vision of the management is to expand the scope and reach of the scholarships so that they can benefit and motivate even more students. To fulfill this dream, an appeal is made for donations to the Corpus Fund, which will be used for the purpose of Scholarship to meritorious and financially needy students, and which will help, in the long run, to build a better future for these bright young talents.
